Since 1808, after Police had gained complete independence from Szczecin, an efficient boat service became the priority. The port was located on the Larpia river near the Old Town. Consequently, regular connections to Szczecin and Swinoujscie were established in 1821. The wharf was reinforced in 1841 and Larpia broadened in 1864. The rebuilding and extension of the port followed so that it could be entered by larger steamers.
